There is nothing more important in the Communication/Journalism field than to know how to write. It is the root of what we, as professionals, do and the ability to do so correctly is one of the most important skills a public relations professional can have.
I believe that I have a strong talent for writing, and I love to do so. The pieces that are presented in this section are meant to show my ability to write technically and professionally for the field. Included are a pitch letter, news releases and a memorandum. Each piece will include a description beside it of why I decided to include it in my portfolio and why I believe it exemplifies my skills in public relations writing.

News Release 1 - Metro College.
This is an example of a news release that was created for my public relations writing course. I felt that this was an important piece to include because it helps to give an idea of how I am able to write a news release, follow the correct format and get the message across while following AP style and journalistic principles.
Pitch Letter - Virtual Workout.
For an assignment in my public relations writing class, we were asked to write a pitch letter to the American Association of Retired People asking them to run an article for our client, a virtual workout gaming system.
The reason that I wanted to include a pitch letter in my portfolio is because it shows how I am capable of writing a letter that delivers a message that presents information that is persuasive enough that they would want to include the article, but does not sound like an advertisement.

News Release 2 - PCCVC.
This news release was designed to be written to inform the public about a program that was being created by the Pennsylvania Counties Coalition Volunteer Center, that would make it easier for a nonprofit to recruit interested volunteers.
This is another example of a writing that was completed during my public relations writing course. The reason that I felt that it was important to include this piece was because it shows AP style, journalistic writing that gets the message across for the client.

News Release 3 - St. Francis Hospital.
My last news release example was again written for my public relations writing course. News releases are so important to getting information out for public relations practitioners, but it is easily overlooked when done incorrectly.
I am confident that through my experience in this course, I have learned how to disseminate information in a way that is interesting, AP correct, and will be ran in the intended medium.

Memorandum - FEM Network.
Through my Broadcast & Advertising sales class, we were asked to create a network and to write a small-scale marketing plan, and also how to present your network so that people would want to advertise on your network.
Along with this was to write a memo to our sales team telling them how we wanted our network represented and how to ensure that advertisers would want to advertise with us. I believe that this work exemplifies my ability to not only write a memorandum in the correct format, but also how to delegate tasks through writing.
